About course

Please Note: important changes to the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) refresher training requirements have come into effect in Queensland as of July 29, 2024. These changes are crucial to ensure that your workplace remains compliant with the latest regulations and that your HSRs are fully equipped to maintain a safe working environment and maintain their compliance with the regulations.

• Existing HSRs must now complete HSR refresher training every 12 months after the initial training (the previous period was every 3 years)

• If you are a current HSR and it has been more than 12 months since your last HSR course (initial or refresher), you should compete the 1-day refresher training as soon as practical to maintain your compliance with the regulations

Future Skills is a Workplace Health and Safety Queensland approved training provider of this course. This course will refresh the information and skills attained under the initial five day training course and assist HSRs to carry out their role and functions under the WHS legislation including:

- an understanding of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation

- an understanding of how it applies to their role as an elected HsR

- the additional knowledge and skills regarding their powers under the WHS legislation to issue Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs)and direct the cessation of unsafe work.

This course is approved by Workplace Health and
Safety Queensland (WHSQ) and is non-accredited training that does not lead to an accredited outcome.

Units

The key sessions covered by this course include:

• Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation

• Consultation, representation and participation under the WHS Act

• Participating in consultation and issue resolution as a HSR

• Monitoring PCBU’s management of WHS risks and notifiable incidents

• Provisional improvement Notices (PINS) and ceasing unsafe work

This course is approved by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) and is non-accredited training that does not lead to an accredited outcome.

Future Skills has CSQ funded positions available for eligible workers, unemployed workers and apprentices who are currently working or have worked in the Queensland Building and Construction Industry.
